By Roxanne Thomas

After a tense match, the Pioneers fell to the University of Texas at Dallas in their Valorant matchup on Wednesday, Sept. 20. The game began strong with Point Park picking the map Lotus, and winning the first round of the first match. UTD made a strong statement, taking 4 rounds in a row. The Pioneers fought back, taking back a round. However, UTD maintained their momentum and won five rounds consecutively. The Pioneers made a strong effort, winning the twelfth round, with Clarke (Ryan Clarke) getting two eliminations. UTD won three more rounds, winning the match, and leaving the score at 13-3.

The second map of the game was Sunset, a map that is relatively new to Valorant. Point Park took rounds one and two, with Kursed (Koleson Smith) attaining 3 kills to end the round. The Pioneers made their mark, with Sunceri (Aaron Sunceri) getting two eliminations in round three, and Creep (Ryan Milazzo) amassing two eliminations in round four. UTD shifted their momentum and took back round five. Point Park clutched round six, and then went on to win five rounds in a row. In the twelfth round, UTD took the round, with PPU proceeding to win the next two rounds. UTD stumped the Pioneers for a few rounds, winning five in a row. Despite this, Point Park reigned victorious on Sunset, with the score of the second match being 13-7.

The deciding map of the game was Breeze, Valorant's largest map to date. Point Park began the match strong, with Sunceri (Aaron Sunceri) getting three eliminations and winning the first round. Following that, UTD won eight rounds in a row. The Pioneers retaliated, clutching round ten.

Unfortunately, UTD won the game, winning 5 rounds in a row, leaving the final score of Breeze at 13-2.

The next match for the Point Park Valorant squad is Wednesday, September 27 at 7:00 with a matchup versus the University of Michigan-Flint.
