Pioneers Battle to Draw on Senior Day

PITTSBURGH – Point Park battled to a 1-1 draw with MEC North leading Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon at Highmark Stadium.
 
Prior to Saturday's game, Point Park celebrated its 10 senior student-athletes with a pre-game ceremony. Point Park's 2024 seniors include goalkeeper Gillian Bierhals, defender Orsi Tatai, midfielder Madison Spencer, midfielder Lisa Schot, defender Abigail Gnass, defender Evelyn Andrews, defender Alina Bigec, forward Lucy Grehan-Bradley, forward Vanessa Vazquez, and forward Asha Mweene.
 
Point Park grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 43rd minute on an unassisted goal by Cara Spry. It was Spry's third goal of the season.
 
The Pioneers maintained the lead into the second half, until Frostburg State's Mollie Rebuck found the back of the net in the 76th minute to tie the score at 1-1.
 
Frostburg State held a 21-9 advantage in total shots, but Point Park held a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. The game also featured 16 corner kicks, 11 of which were awarded to Frostburg State.
 
In addition to Spry's goal, Jurnee Durrett-Finney, Alina Bigec, Gillianne Stewardson and Vanessa Vazquez also recorded on-target shots in the game.
 
Frederieke Rijlaarsdam played all 90 minutes in the Point Park goal and made three saves in the game. Frostburg goalkeeper Katie Sterne also made three saves in the game.
 
Point Park (2-8-5, 1-7-4 MEC) will now hit the road for two-straight games, beginning with a matchup against West Liberty on Wednesday evening on the hilltop. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
