WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – West Liberty scored two first-half goals and held off Point Park for a 2-1 win on Wednesday evening at the West Family Sports Complex.
Point Park's lone goal of the game came in the 77
th minute on a successful penalty kick by
Gillianne Stewardson.
With the game scoreless in the 33
rd minute, West Liberty's Isabella Aperfine made it 1-0 with an assist from Maya Taggart. Eight minutes later, the Hilltoppers got a second goal from Kara Keiper prior to the half.
Statistically, Point Park finished the match with a 16-13 advantage in total shots, including a 10-5 edge in shots on goal. West Liberty held a 12-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Point Park offense was led on Wednesday by four shots from
Sterre Kuijper and two from
Klara Bring. Six different Pioneers recorded shots in the game.
West Liberty goalkeeper Cianna Butera recorded nine saves to preserve the win for the 'Toppers.
Point Park will return to action on Sunday afternoon at Fairmont State. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Duvall-Rosier Field.
