(RV) Point Park collects two wins over Midway (Ky.) to sweep RSC series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- (RV) Point Park University baseball picked up wins of 8-5 and 8-0 over Midway (Ky.) University on Friday from Wild Things Park to complete a three-game, River States Conference sweep of the Eagles.

Point Park (15-7, 8-1 RSC) ran its win streak to nine straight games and has won eight conference games in a row. After starting the series with a 13-4 win on Thursday, the Pioneers kept the momentum going into Friday.

The Pioneers clubbed five home runs in Friday's doubleheader and also had both of their starting pitchers throw deep into the game.

Isaac Santana was a hitting star with a grand slam in the first game and a three-run homer in the nightcap. He now has nine homers in 22 games after his seven-RBI day at the plate.

Santana's slam came in the third inning of Friday's opener. That made the score 5-1 to break it open a bit. It came two batters after Omar Morillo tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI double, one of his three hits in the game.

Chris Williams had a pair of hits, including a two-run single to stretch the lead out to 7-2 in the fifth.

Midway cut the lead to 7-4 in the top of the seventh, but Jared Campbell went deep for a solo shot in the bottom half to keep the Pioneers in control.

Four Point Park pitchers held off the Eagles in the first game. Ramon Rodriguez went the first 6.1 innings to get the win. He left with a 7-2 lead after striking out five and walking one.

Jose Moreno (0.1 IP) was followed by Ethan Parker (1.1) for the middle relief. Joathan Rivera earned the save pitching a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts to preserve the 8-5 win.

Blake Kincaid threw the first 5.0 innings for Midway in Game 1. He gave up seven runs and seven hits with the grand slam, RBI double and two-run single accounting for all the runs.

The series finale was all Point Park as soon as the Pioneers came to bat in the home half of the first. Santana went deep for a three-run shot four batters into the game. Luis Gonzalez followed three batters later with the Pioneers' second three-run homer of the first inning, a shot to center field.

A third no doubter came in the third when Michali Brito smashed a homer off the scoreboard in left-center field.

Jared Campbell, who was 2 for 2 with two doubles and a walk, doubled, stole second and raced home on an error in the fifth. That made the score 8-0.

John Hawley spun a great outing for the Pioneers in Game 2. The tall right-hander struck out a career-high 10 batters and pitched a four-hit shutout.

He had to work around base runners in five of the first six innings but kept throwing up zeroes on the scoreboard. Hawley used the punchout and his defense to strand two runners each in the firsth, fifth and sixth innings.

Point Park's upcoming games are March 19 at Cleary (Mich.) and March 20 at Lourdes (Ohio) for a doubleheader.
