Box Score FROSTBURG, Md. – Point Park scored three second-half goals and went on to pick up the institution's first–ever Mountain East Conference victory on Saturday evening at Bobcats Stadium, defeating Frostburg State 3-1.
After a scoreless first half, Point Park's Nils Benning scored in the 50th minute with an assist from Javier Morejon to make it 1-0 Pioneers early in the second half. PPU went up by a 2-0 advantage in the 78th minute on a goal by Finn Syson (assisted by Benning).
Less than two minutes later, Frostburg State's Laki Psallidas scored an unassisted goal to make it 2-1 at the 79:26 mark.
The Pioneers, however, added an insurance goal with just over a minute to play on an unassisted goal by Fridolin Gefrorer.
Frostburg State held a 19-6 advantage in total shots, including a 6-5 mark in shots on goal. FSU also held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
David Ali had a big day in the Point Park goal on Saturday night, recording five saves while surrendering just one goal.
The Pioneers (2-2, 1-2 MEC) will return home to take on Wheeling University on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
