Box Score PITTSBURGH – Wheeling held off several Point Park scoring opportunities late in the game, and the Pioneers and Cardinals battled to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh.
With the game scorless with under seven minutes remaining, Point Park fired five shots at Wheeling's defense late in the box. The sequence began with a shot by Moritz Sarfert that went wide right of the net.
After a goal kick by Wheeling, Point Park regained possession and had three shots blocked in the box, including two shots by Felipe Menezes and one by Ruben Kuypers.
Under a minute later, Menezes took one more attempt, a shot that required a diving save by Wheeling's Daniel Delo in goal.
Statistically, Point Park held a 15-9 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. Both teams were granted five corner kicks.
Point Park's David Ali recorded four saves to earn the clean sheet. On the opposite end, Delo recorded seven saves for Wheeling.
Menezes recorded four shots in the game to lead PPU, while Javier Morejon and Sarfert recorded two shots apiece.
For Wheeling, Antonio Herra-Blackwood had two scoring opportunities for the Cardinal offense.
Point Park returns to the field on Saturday at Highmark Stadium. The PPU Homecoming Game against West Liberty is slated for 1:30 p.m.
