Box Score BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Point Park scored the first four goals of the game and held off a late comeback by Salem to win 4-3 on Sunday evening at the Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
Point Park improves to 4-3-1 overall on the season following the victory. Salem fell to 2-6 on the year.
Edward Bowers put Point Park on the board in the ninth minute with an assist from Javier Morejon to make it 1-0. Five minutes later, Nils Benning scored his fourth goal of the season with an assist from Cheroky Briard to make it 2-0 Pioneers in the first half.
Early in the second half (53rd minute), Ruben Kuypers scored with an assist from Morejon to add to the Pioneer lead.
In the 58th minute, Point Park went ahead by a 4-0 advantage on a goal by Morejon - who finished the evening with one goal and two assists.
Salem scored its first goal of the evening just 13 seconds later on a successful shot attempt by Josue Villegas.
Villegas made it 4-2 in the 70th minute after scoring his second goal of the game, an unassisted shot into the low left of the goal. Salem's comeback continued in the 83rd minute on a goal by Abdul Kabbany to wrap up the goal scoring in the game.
Statistically, Salem held a 13-11 advantage in total shots, including a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal. Point Park held a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.
Kuypers and Benning combined to take seven of Point Park's shots in the win.
Point Park will return home to host Davis & Elkins on Wednesday evening at Highmark Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
