Box Score PITTSBURGH – Seven different Point Park players netted a goal in Thursday's 8-1 non-conference victory over Chatham at Highmark Stadium in Downtown Pittsburgh.
Nils Benning led the Point Park offensive attack with a pair of goal off of his three shots on goal. Fridolin Gerfoer tallied three assists for the Pioneers in the win.
Point Park took control of the game with five goals in the opening half. Javier Morejon began the scoring for the Pioneers with a goal in the 12th minute. Early in the 15th minute, Ruben Kuypers found the back of the net to make it 2-0 with an assist from Gerfoer, his second of the game.
Seven minutes later, Cheroky Briard used another assist from Gerfoer to make it 3-0.
After scoring the first goal of the game in the 24th minute, Morejon recorded an assist on Ido Chalamish's goal to add to Point Park's lead. Benning capped the first-half scoring with an unassisted goal in the 35th minute.
The Pioneers held a 21-2 shots advantage in the opening half and turned it into a 5-0 halftime advantage on the scoreboard.
After Chatham scored the first goal of the second half in the 47th minute, Point Park added three insurance goals in the second half to wrap up the 8-1 season-opening victory. The second-half scoring included goals by Benning (49th), Ian Thomas (82nd) and Dominic Thieler (83rd).
David Ali recorded 90 minutes in the Point Park net, allowing just one goal while recording two saves.
Jason Kush and Maxwell Cottrill split time in the Chatham goal, recording 12 total saves in the game.
In all, Point Park ended the game with a 34-4 shots advantage and a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
Point Park will play its first-ever Mountain East Conference game on Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium. The matchup with Concord is set for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
