PITTSBURGH – Fairmont State picked up a 3-0 victory over Point Park on Friday evening at the Student Center in Downtown Pittsburgh.
After the Falcons took the first set 25-10, the teams battled back-and-forth and into extra points to decide the second and third sets (30-28 and 26-24).
Fairmont State hit .165 in the match with 56 points and 38 kills. Point Park hit .007 with 33 kills, 32 errors and 47 points. The Falcons held a narrow 13-9 margin in blocks, while both teams recorded five aces.
The Pioneers had two double-digit attackers in the match as
Alex Koontz and
Avery Budrys Rini recorded 10 kills apiece.
Nicole Reasbeck also had a big night with nine kills and six blocks (three solo).
Budrys Rini had a team-high 14 digs for Point Park, while
Marianna Oyola-Rivera and
Mia Arndt finished with 12 and 10, respectively. Oyola-Rivera also passed out 26 assists from her setter position.
Fairmont State was led by Joey Borelle with 12 kills and eight digs. Josie Nobbe drove home nine kills for the Falcons. Defensively, Josie Skinn recorded 19 digs.
Point Park will return to the road on Tuesday evening with a non-conference match at Salem University. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
