Fast Start Not Enough As Point Park Falls to Concord Friday Night

PITTSBURGH – After breezing to a 25-12 win in the opening set, Point Park dropped a 3-1 final to Concord University on Friday evening at the Student Center. Concord won the remaining three sets 25-19, 25-18 and 25-16.
 
Point Park hit .500 in the first set with 15 kills and just two errors. The first-set win was aided by 12-consecutive points that gave the Pioneers a 16-3 lead early in the set.
 
For the match, Concord outhit Point Park .283-to-.152. Concord also held a 12-4 advantage in blocks. Point Park recorded eight aces on the evening.
 
Alex Koontz led Point Park with 12 kills and three aces in the match. Nicole Reasbeck chipped in 11 kills and a team-high five aces. Avery Budrys Rini also had a big night for the Pioneers with 11 kills and 11 digs to record a double-double.
 
Marianna Oyola-Rivera led the Pioneers in both assists (36) and digs (14) from her setter position. Lily Marchand also recorded eight digs and four assists for PPU.
 
Chloe Thompson paced Concord with 13 kills in the win. Meg Williams recorded nine kills and 13 digs.
 
Point Park returns to the Student Center on Saturday afternoon to host Glenville State. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
