PITTSBURGH – Glenville State opened up a 2-0 advantage and defeated Point Park in four sets on Saturday afternoon at the Student Center in Downtown Pittsburgh. GSU took the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-19, before dropping the third set, 25-15. Glenville wrapped up the win with a 25-17 advantage in set four.
Point Park has now dropped six-straight matches and has a record of 3-15 (2-5 MEC) on the season. Glenville State is now 10-12 on the year (2-5 MEC).
Statistically, Glenville outhit Point Park, .221-to-.085, while also finishing with a 9-7 edge in blocks. Point Park held a 9-2 advantage in aces.
The teams combined for 22 service errors in the match (PPU - 12, GSU - 10)
Avery Budrys Rini recorded a team-high 12 kills to lead the Pioneers on Saturday.
Alex Koontz narrowly missed a double-double with 11 kills and nine digs.
Nicole Reasbeck filled the stat sheet for Point Park with nine kills, seven digs, four assists and three blocks.
Patricia Calero-Irizarry recorded five blocks to lead Point Park inside.
Marianna Oyola-Rivera passed out 32 assists for the PPU offense.
Glenville State was led in the win by 11 kills and four blocks from Mikayla Curry. Rita Kelly added nine kills for GSU, while Deniz Selen-Yazar recorded four blocks.
Point Park will play a non-conference match at Carnegie Mellon on Tuesday evening. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
