PITTSBURGH – Point Park avenged a 1-0 loss to Salem in its season opener by defeating the Tigers 3-1 on Wednesday evening during senior night at Highmark Stadium. The Pioneers jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the break and never looked back in the win.
Lennard Schneider used an assist from
Joao Weber to score in the 17
th minute of the game. The Pioneers then added two more goals in the 32
nd minute, the first by
Guy Lehrer at 32:22, followed by
Giovanni Pezzi at 32:58. Lehrer's goal was assisted by
Adam Zellmer.
Salem netted a goal in the 49th minute to wrap up the scoring.
Point Park held an 11-7 advantage in on-target shots in the game.
Gregorio Capponi and
Gus Wytcherley combined for the win in the Point Park goal on Wednesday. Capponi kept a clean sheet with one save, while Wytcherley allowed one goal while recording five saves.

Point Park wrapped up the regular season with an 8-8-2 overall record, including a 7-5-2 mark in conference play. Point Park is the No. 3 seed in next week's MEC Men's Soccer Tournament. Meaning, the Pioneers will host sixth-seeded West Liberty in the opening round on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
