Greschner, Rush Break School Records on Day 1 of MEC Championships

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Mya Greschner and Diamond Rush broke school records on day one of the 2025 Mountain East Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, while Cassondra O'Connor finished runner-up in a highly competitive 5000m race on Sunday evening from the Chris Cline Indoor Complex on the campus of Marshall University.
 
Greschner finished fourth with a mark of 5.57m in the long jump to take the top spot on the school record board. She improved the school record mark that was set by current teammate Emma Roemer (5.52m) at the 2023 YSU Icebreaker event.
 
Roemer also competed in today's championship and qualified for Monday's final in the 60m hurdles as the seventh seed. She turned in a time of 9.29 in heat one of prelims on Sunday.
 
In heat one of the 200m prelims, Diamond Rush turned in a time of 25.02 to improve her school record time in the event. She also moves on to Monday's 200m final as the fifth seed.
 
O'Connor recorded a personal best in the 5000m (17:28.56) and finished runner-up behind West Virginia Wesleyan's Leigha Hall. She edged out D&E's Lydia Falkenstein for second place (17:28.82) in a close finish to land on the podium. O'Connor currently ranks second in school history in the event.
 
Point Park also finished on the podium in the distance medley relay with a third-place time of 12:22.99. The Point Park DMR team included Jana Schmid, Paige Marnell, Allison Plassio and Lotte Zethof.
 
In the 400m prelims, Greschner and Rush moved on to Monday's final as the fourth and fifth seeds, respectively. Greschner won heat four with a time of 59.46, while Rush turned in a time of 58.60 in heat three. Rush's time ranks second in PPU history.
 
The MEC Indoor Track & Field Championships will continue on Monday with a full slate of competition beginning at 11 a.m.
