CLERMONT, Fla. – The Point Park softball team closed out their spring training trip at The Spring Games with two wins on the day. Point Park opened up the final day with a walk-off win over Lake Erie beating them 4-3 then followed up with a 6-1 win over Queens College (N.Y.)
Game 1
Kaylee Fabiano had the game winning hit for the Pioneers in the bottom of the seventh as the Pioneers stormed from behind and scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to get the 4-3 win over the Storm.
Lake Erie got on the board first putting up the game's first run in the top of the fourth. The Storm scored an unearned run on a sacrifice fly to center field to go up 1-0.
The Storm added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead out to 3-0 before the Pioneer's started their comeback.
After holding Lake Erie scoreless in the top of the seventh the Pioneers started off the inning with a walk as
Julia Hill reached base.
Mia Arndt then connected on a pitch sending a double to the left field fence putting runners on with second and third for
Melanie Taylor.
Melanie Taylor came through with her lone hit of the game in a timely spot as the senior singled through the left side to score both Hill and Arndt, bringing the Pioneers within one.
Point Park continued the hot offense as
Remington Koi tripled to left center to score Taylor, tying the game at 3-3.
With no outs,
Kaylee Fabiano singled through the right-side allowing Koi to score the game winning run for the Pioneers on the walk-off.
Jaylyn Mullenax went all 7.0 innings in the circle for the Pioneers giving up only three runs (two earned) on five hits. The junior also picked up seven strikeouts in the win. Mullenax now sits at 2-3 on the season.
Koi and Arndt both picked up two hits to lead the Pioneers. Taylor went 1-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Fabiano went 1-4 with the game winning RBI.
Game 2
Point Park closed out the trip with a 6-1 win over Queens College (N.Y.) as the Pioneer offense pounded out 10 hits on their way to their second win of the day.
Point Park picked up their first two runs of the game in the top of the third as
Remington Koi singled to left field to score
Mia Arndt. Following Koi's single,
Melanie Taylor scored on a pass ball to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.
The Pioneers put up two more on the board in the top of the fifth as
Gianna Welsh singled to center field scoring
Emma Henry and Koi, extending Point Park's lead to four.
Queen's College their lone run in the bottom of the fifth on a single to left field by Kadie Cain to score Allie Parascandola.
In the top of the sixth Koi continued her hot offensive day picking up two more RBIs on a single to left field to score
Julia Hill and Arndt.
Savannah Lee (1-3) picked up her first win of the season going 6.0 innings in the circle for the Pioneers. Lee gave up five hits and one run while issuing four walks.
Alyssa Wahl came in as relief in the bottom of the seventh to close out the game for Point Park. In 1.0 inning Wahl only surrendered a lone hit.
Remington Koi led the Pioneers going 2-4 with three RBIs.
Bella Magliocco and
Julia Hill each registered two hits in the contest. Welsh went 1-4 with two RBIs.
UP NEXT
Point Park will return to Pittsburgh with a 3-7 record. The Pioneers will begin Mountain East Conference play on Saturday March 15 as Point Park hosts Wheeling University for a doubleheader at Fairhaven Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
