Point Park Softball Drops Doubleheader Against West Liberty

PITTSBURGH, Pa. –  The Point Park softball team dropped both games in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader against West Liberty at Fairhaven Park. The Pioneers dropped game one 2-1 then lost game two 5-2.

Game 1
Point Park had chances to score in the bottom of the seventh but stranded a runner on third as a groundout to shortstop ended the chance of a comeback for the Pioneers.

Point Park's Emma Henry got the Pioneers lone RBI in the bottom of the third as the sophomore singled to center field to score Mia Arndt who had reached base on a double to center field.

West Liberty put up the game winning runs in the top of the fifth as Brooke Perri hit a hard line drive that tipped off the shortstops glove to score both Alayna Cook and Mallory Rosnick. The Hilltoppers held off the Pioneers for the rest of the game.

Jalyn Mullenax (2-4) was tagged with the loss. Mullenax went 7.0 innings giving up only two runs on three hits while striking out seven batters.

Mia Arndt led the Pioneer offense going 3-3 with a run scored while Emma Henry went 2-3 with an RBI.
 
Game 2
The Point Park offense put up two runs on six hits in the Pioneers 5-2 loss in game two.

West Liberty started the scoring in game two as a hard single to the third basemen by Mallory Rosnick scored Jaden Conrad to give the Hilltoppers a 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers answered back in the bottom of the third as Gianna Welsh singled to right field to score Melanie Taylor and Mia Arndt, giving the Pioneers a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth the Hilltoppers exploded for three runs on three hits and one error.

Point Park was unable to push anymore runs across in the final three innings giving West Liberty the 5-2 conference win.

Savannah Lee and Alyssa Wahl combined in the circle for the Pioneers. Lee was tagged with the loss going 5.1 innings giving up eight hits, four runs (three earned) while picking up five strikeouts. Wahl came on in relief and pitched the last 1.2 innings giving up three hits and a run.
 
Mia Arndt once again led the Pioneers going 2-3 with one run scored to end the day going 5-6 in the series.

With the pair off losses Point Park falls to 3-9 overall and 0-2 in Mountain East Conference play.

Point Park will return to the diamond tomorrow to face off with Wheeling University in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Fairhaven Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
