Taylor's Grand Slam Gives Point Park Split at Malone

CANTON, Ohio – Point Park split a non-conference doubleheader with Malone University on Tuesday evening in Canton.
 
In game one, Melanie Taylor recorded the only hit for Point Park, a grand slam in the top of the fifth inning to make it 4-0 in favor of the Pioneers.
 
Mia Rose finally put Malone on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run to center field, making the final score 4-1.
 
In addition to being low scoring, the teams combined for just four hits in the game.
 
Jaylyn Mullenax improved to 4-4 on the season in a complete-game pitching performance for Point Park, going seven innings while allowing just one run on three hits. She recorded 13 strikeouts in the stellar performance.
 
In addition to her home run, Rose was in the circle for Malone, throwing a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts. She is now 5-2 on the season.
 
In game two, Rose delivered at the plate once again for Malone, hitting a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fourth to make it 1-0. In the top of the sixth with Taylor on second, Mia Arndt smacked a double to left field to even the score at a run apiece.
 
With one out and a runner on second, Malone walked it off in the bottom of the seventh with a double by Aricka Young.
 
Game two provided another pitching duel. Savannah Lee was charged with the loss despite throwing a complete game for Point Park. She allowed two runs on eight hits.
 
Allie Weilnau improved to 7-0 on the season for Malone, going seven innings while allowing just four hits with five strikeouts.
 
Point Park will return to MEC play on Saturday with a twinbill at Fairmont State. First pitch is slated for noon at Duvall-Rosier Field.
