Point Park Softball Splits with Fairmont State on the Road

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Point Park softball team earned Mountain East Conference split with Fairmont State. The Pioneers took game one 6-5 then fell in game two 8-5 against the Falcons to move to 7-11 overall on the year and 3-3 in conference play.

Game 1

A big four run third inning highlighted by a Remington Koi three run homerun gave the Pioneers the game one 6-5 win over Fairmont State.

Fairmont State got the first run of the game on the board in the bottom of the first on a throwing error in centerfield.

The Pioneers offense got hot in the top of the third as Julia Hill reached base with a two-out double and Melanie Taylor walked to put two runners on for Remington Koi who hit her first homerun of the season to left field to put the Pioneers up 3-1.

Mia Arndt reached base in the next at-bat as the sophomore singled to left field and was then brought in on a double to right field by Alyssa Wahl giving the Pioneers a 4-1 lead.

The Pioneers tacked on another run in the fourth inning as Hill picked up her second double of the day to score Emma Henry who reached based on a single to start the inning off.

Melanie Taylor picked up the Pioneers last RBI of game one as Taylor grounded out to third base to score Gia Labrie who reached base on an infield single.

Fairmont State began to mount a comeback putting up four runs in the bottom of the seventh but Point Park pitcher Jaylyn Mullenax was able to get a fly out to right field to end the game.

Mullenax picked up her fifth win of the season going all 7.0 innings giving up four hits and five runs, none earned, while walking five and striking out eight.

Hill and Arndt each picked up three hits on the day while Wahl went 2-3 at the plate. Koi led the Pioneers with three RBIs.
 
Game 2

A big fifth inning by the Falcons gave Fairmont State the 8-5 win over Point Park.

Point Park put up five runs through the first four innings. Ava Hubble started the scoring off for the Pioneers with a two-run double to left field to score Savannah Lee and Alyssa Wahl.

Fairmont State got a run back in the third inning on a sacrifice fly to centerfield to cut the Pioneers lead to 4-1.

In the bottom of the third Emma Henry tripled to right field to score Mia Arndt and Remington Koi.

Point Park's final run came in the top of the fourth as Julia Hill doubled down the left field line to score Gia Labrie who reached via a single to second base.

Fairmont went on to score seven runs over the last three innings to get the split with the Pioneers.

Savannah Lee and Alyssa Wahl combined in the circle for the Pioneers with Lee being tagged with the loss (2-6). Lee went 4.2 innings giving up seven runs (two earned) on eight hits. Wahl came in for 1.1 innings of relief giving up one run (not earned) on two hits.

Emma Henry and Ava Hubble each had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Pioneers on the offensive end.

Up Next

Point Park will continue Mountain East play tomorrow with a doubleheader against Frostburg State at Bobcat Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Maryland.
