Point Park Drops Games to University of Sioux Falls and Ohio Dominican University

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Point Park softball team dropped two games on day two of The Spring Games at Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont, Florida. The Pioneers opened up the day with a 6-4 loss against the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) then fell to Ohio Dominican University 8-1 to close out the day.
 
Game 1
Game one of the day featured the Pioneers picking up four runs on seven hits in the 6-4 loss to the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.).

The Cougars started the game off scoring two runs in the bottom of the first as Kyra Knudtson doubled down the left field line to score Jaeleigh Darnell and Meghan Jochimsen to put Sioux Falls up 2-0.

Point Park answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first as Gianna Welsh reached first on an error in left field to score Melanie Taylor. Gia LaBrie then came through with an RBI single up the middle to score Remington Koi who had reached base on a single to right field.

The Pioneers added on a run in the bottom of third on a solo shot from Welsh for her first of the season.

Sioux Falls took the lead back in the top of the third as the Cougars scored three runs on three hits and two errors.

Point Park's Mia Arndt led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple to right center then came around on an Ava Hubble groundout to cut the Cougars lead down to one.

The Cougars added an insurance run in the top of the fifth to hold off Point Park over the next two innings to get the win.

Jaylyn Mullenax (1-2) went all 7.0 innings in the circle giving up 11 hits and six runs (five earned) in the loss. Mullenax picked up a season high eight strikeouts in the effort.

Melanie Taylor went 2-4 at the plate to lead the Point Park offense. Gianna Welsh chipped in going 1-4 with one run scored and two RBIs.
 
Game 2
In game two the Pioneers struggled offensively only picking up one hit and one run in the 8-1 five inning loss to Ohio Dominican University.

Point Park began the game with Mia Arndt drawing a bases loaded walk to bring in Remington Koi for the games first run.

From there it was all Ohio Dominican as the Panthers put up eight unanswered runs picking up four in the bottom of the first, two in the bottom of the second and the third, and one in the bottom of the fifth to end the game in five innings.

Bre Pies had the lone hit for the Pioneers in the top of the fifth with a single to center field to erase the no-hitter.

Alyssa Wahl and Saige Payne split time in the circle for the Pioneers. Wahl (0-1) was tagged with the loss going 2.0 innings giving up seven hits and six runs. Payne went the remaining 2.1 innings giving up two hits and three runs (two earned).

Up Next
Point Park will take Sunday off and return to action back on Monday afternoon with two games scheduled at Legends Way Ballfields. Point Park will open up the day against Minnesota State University, Mankato at 2:00 p.m. then finish off the day against Bemidji State following the 2:00 p.m. game.
