Point Park Softball Falls to UC in MEC Doubleheader

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Point Park softball team dropped a doubleheader to the University of Charleston Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon in West Virginia. Charleston took game one 8-2 followed up by a 6-1 win over the Pioneers.

Game 1
Point Park offense struggled against the Golden Eagles scoring only two runs on five hits, falling 8-2.

The University of Charleston scored five unanswered runs before the Pioneers finally broke through in the top of the fifth as Gianna Welsh hit a solo shot over the left field fence.

The Golden Eagles scored again in the bottom of the fifth as Hannah Meyer got a solo home run of her own to left field putting UC up 6-1.

Remington Koi got the Pioneers another run in the top of the sixth as she doubled to left field to score Melanie Taylor.

Charleston picked up two more runs in the bottom of the sixth and shut the Pioneers out in the top of the seventh to get the game one win.

Jaylyn Mullenax was tagged with the loss going 3.0 innings giving up four runs on four hits. Mullenax is now 8-8 on the season.

Alyssa Wahl came in to replace Mullenax going 2.2 innings in relief. Wahl gave up four runs on six hits.

Saige Payne closed out the game for the Pioneers going 0.1 innings.

Bella Magliocco went 2-for-3 for the Pioneers while Welsh, Taylor, and Koi each went 1-for-3 with Welsh and Koi having one RBI each.
 
Game 2
The long ball was a huge factor in Charleston's 6-1 win over Point Park in game two.

Charleston opened up the game with five unanswered runs, with four coming from home runs as Hannah Meyer hit a three-run home run to center field in the bottom of the first followed up by another Meyer home run in the bottom of the third to put UC up 4-0. Charleston got one more run in the bottom of the third as Brittny Ogg doubled to left field to score Lindsey Phares.

The Pioneers got on the board in the top of the fifth as Melanie Taylor hit a solo home run to left center to avoid the shutout.

UC added one more run in the bottom of the sixth to beat the Pioneers 6-1.

Savannah Lee was tagged with the loss going 3.0 innings giving up five runs on eight hits to fall to 3-10 on the season.

Alyssa Wahl closed out the game for Point Park going 3.0 innings giving up one run on two hits.

Bella Magliocco and Taylor went 2-for-3 to lead the Pioneers. Welsh and Gia Labrie picked up the other hits for the Pioneers.

Up Next
With the two losses Point Park falls to 12-19 overall and 6-9 in MEC play. Point Park will continue their road trip down south with another MEC doubleheader tomorrow against West Virginia State. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Institute, West Virginia.
