PITTSBURGH – Point Park softball was dealt a sweep by the Concord Mountain Lions in an MEC doubleheader at Fairhaven Park on Friday afternoon. Concord outscored the Pioneers 11-6 on the day with Point Park dropping game one 5-3 before falling in game two 6-3.
Game 1
A big fifth inning led Concord over Point Park in game one of the doubleheader as the Mountain Lions beat the Pioneers 5-3 to open up the day.
Concord put up the first run of the game in the top of the third as Courtney Raines hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Morgan Gleason.
The Pioneers quickly answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the third as
Mia Arndt hit a single to centerfield to bring in
Melanie Taylor making the game 1-1 going into the top of the fourth.
In the top of the fourth the Mountain Lions retook the lead as Gianna Sloan-Lebron grounded out to shortstop with bases loaded allowing Savannah Brehm to score from third.
Point Park took their first lead of the game in the top of the fourth as
Alyssa Wahl singled to centerfield to score
Emma Henry.
Julia Hill then came through with a single of her own to the left field fence to score pinch runner
Jana Hess making it 3-2 Point Park.
A big fifth inning by the Mountain Lions doomed the Pioneers as Concord put up three runs in the top of the fifth to make it 5-3.
Point Park was unable to push any more runs across as the Pioneers went down in order in the bottom of the seventh.
Alyssa Wahl was tagged with the loss giving up five runs on 10 hits in 7.0 innings of work. Wahl now sits at 2-4 on the season.
Offensively, Gia Labrie led the Pioneers going 2-for-3.
Julia Hill and
Alyssa Wahl each went 1-for-3 with an RBI single.
Game 2
Errors were costly for the Pioneers as Point Park had four errors in game two with the Pioneers falling 6-3 to the Mountain Lions.
Point Park got on the board first in the bottom of the first as
Mia Arndt laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to bring
Melanie Taylor in from third to put the Pioneers up early.
Concord got themselves in the game with two runs in the third and three runs in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead over Point Park.
The Pioneers put up two more runs in the bottom of the fourth as
Payton Haller doubled down the left field line to score
Mia Arndt and
Remington Koi making it 5-3 in favor of Concord.
The Mountain Lions got an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Kayla Sholter hit an RBI single to right field to score Kendall Morgan making the final score 6-3.
Savannah Lee fell to 3-13 on the season with the loss. Lee went 7.0 innings giving up six runs (two earned) on nine hits.
Payton Haller led the Pioneers offensively going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Mia Arndt and
Bella Magliocco had the other two hits for Point Park.

Point Park will host their final home doubleheader of the season tomorrow at Fairhaven Park against Glenville State with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Tomorrow Point Park will honor their six seniors
