Point Park Softball Gets Extra-Innings Win over West Liberty to Split Doubleheader

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Point Park softball team picked up an important MEC win as the Pioneers split with West Liberty. The Pioneers fell 2-1 in game one before picking up a big 4-1 extra-innings win over West Liberty.

Game 1
The Point Park offense was held to only one run and one hits in the Pioneers 2-1 loss in game one.

Following three scoreless innings, Point Park got on the board first in the top of the fourth as Emma Henry hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Mia Arndt who reached base after being hit by a pitch.

West Liberty went on to score a run in the fourth and fifth innings to get the 2-1 win over the Pioneers.

Alyssa Wahl went the distance for the Pioneers going 6.0 innings giving up two runs on five hits with one strikeout. Wahl is now 3-5 on the season.

Gianna Welsh had Point Park's lone hit in the top of the fourth.
 
Game 2
An offensive explosion in the top of the ninth for the Pioneers gave Point Park a 4-1 win in extra innings to get the split with West Liberty and move closer to securing a playoff spot.

Just like they did in the first, Point Park got a run on the board in the top of the fourth as the Emma Henry singled to right field to score Mia Arndt.

Point Park held the Hilltoppers scoreless until the bottom of the seventh as Kadence Pettit hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Kassydi Harris and send the game into extras.

After a scoreless eighth inning by both teams Point Park had their biggest inning of the entire day in the top of the ninth as the Pioneers put up three runs. With two outs Arndt singled up the middle before stealing second base.

The next batter Gianna Welsh reached base on a walk to put two on for Henry. With Arndt on second and Kaylee Fabiano pinch running at first Henry doubled to left center to put the Pioneers up 3-1.

After a pitching change by West Liberty, Bella Magliocco extended the Pioneers lead with a double to right field to score Henry making it 3-1.

Savannah Lee shut down the West Liberty lineup in order in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win for Point Park.

Lee picked up her fourth win of the season going all 9.0 innings for the Pioneers giving up only one run on two hits.

Henry provided a huge offensive spark for the Pioneers going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Arndt also picked up three hits in the win going 3-for-4 with two runs.
 
UP NEXT
Point Park now sits at 15-27 overall and 9-17 in league play. The Pioneers will face Wheeling on Sunday afternoon in a decisive doubleheader at the JB Chambers I-470 complex. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
