ELKINS, W.Va. – Point Park opened Mountain East Conference play with a 3-0 sweep over Davis & Elkins on Friday evening in central West Virginia. The result was Point Park's second sweep of the season with set scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-16.
Point Park recorded a .206 hitting percentage in the match with 36 kills and just 14 errors on 107 total attacks. The Pioneers also held a 9-2 advantage in blocks and a 6-3 edge in aces.
Nicole Reasbeck led the Pioneers with 9 kills, six digs and six block assists in the win.
Alex Koontz finished the evening with seven kills and nine digs.
Avery Budrys Rini and
Patricia Calero-Irizarry also recorded six kills apiece. Setter
Marianna Oyola-Rivera passed out a team-high 21 assists on Friday evening while also leading the Pioneers with 14 digs.
Davis & Elkins was led by five kills apiece from Melisa Ozsar and Christine Rangel. The Senators had a negative hitting percentage (-.017) with 20 kills compared to 22 errors on th evening.
The Pioneers will continue conference play at Frostburg State on Tuesday evening. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. first serve.
