ALFRED, N.Y. – Point Park women's wrestling turned in a third-place team finish at Sunday's Alfred State Pioneer Invite in New York, scoring 72.5 points at the event.
Point Park had five student-athletes place at the event, with
Cailyn Casto winning the 160 bracket to lead the way.
Elizabeth Watts finished second at 138, while
Rei Vlahov and
Daniela Contin finished third, respectively, at 110 and 124 pounds.
Kaitlynn Plopi finished fifth in the 138 bracket.
Casto went 5-0 at the event, winning by tech fall three times and by fall twice to complete her perfect day.
After dropping a bout by fall in her opening match of the tournament, Watts won her next three matches to finish runner-up in the 138 bracket. She won by fall in round three and tech fall in round four.
Contin went 4-1 at the event, winning by fall in each of her four wins. She fell in the semifinals to drop into the consolation bracket, where she finished in third position.
Vlahov also finished third in her bracket (110). After falling in the opening round and semifinals, Vlahov won the third-place match by fall.
Point Park will next travel to Indiana for the Spartan Mat Classic next Sunday, Jan. 18.
