BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Point Park's
Aiden Burford and West Liberty's Jordan Watters shared MEC Wrestlers of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Burford, a freshman from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, dropped his first-round bout by a 9-7 decision on Saturday, but then won his next four matches to advance to the third-place match in the 141 bracket at the Jayhawk Open hosted in Jamestown, N.Y. Burford's four-consecutive wins featured three extra-point victories – one by fall and two by major decision.
West Liberty's Watters, a graduate from Imperial, Pennsylvania, won both matches of the Hilltoppers tri-meet with East Stroudsburg and Gannon at 165. Watters defeated Joshua Montesino of ESU with a fall at 2:47, and defeated Grant MacKay of GU (SV-1 5-2). McKay ranks No.3 in the country at 165.
