PITTSBURGH -- Point Park women's basketball fell to West Virginia Wesleyan 65-46, Friday night at CCAC-Allegheny. The Pioneers drop to 5-12 (2-10 MEC) on the year with the loss.
Point Park held 1-point leads after both the first and second quarters. Camille Fultz scored six in the opening frame and recorded a huge block at quarter's end to maintain the 17-16 lead for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers boasted 15 bench points in the first half, seven of which came from Lucia Hervia, who added three of her team-leading (tied with Kiyana Larocque) seven rebounds in the quarter. Hervia added an impressive assist, finding Kamryn Pieper in traffic for a layup which tied the game at 27 apiece. Pieper totaled seven points in the half, tied with Hervia for second on the team behind Fultz (with 8).
The Pioneers shot 51.9% from the field in the first half, including an impressive 42.9 3-point percentage. The Pioneers added 22 first-half points in the paint.
Point Park stumbled in the second half, however, scoring only 6 points in the third quarter to the Bobcats' (12-4, 9-3 MEC) 21. Fultz added 4 points in the third quarter, ending the game with a team-high 12 - her eighth game with double-digit points in her last nine games. Pieper finished with 10 points.
Wesleyan was led by a team-high 21 points from Emma Witt. Sydney Baird added 16.
Point Park will return to action Monday at Davis & Elkins, in a rescheduled matchup due to last week's snow storm. Opening tip is slated for 4 p.m. from Elkins, W.Va.
