PITTSBURGH - After a slow start - only scoring nine points in the first quarter - the University of Charleston scored 20 or more points in the final three quarters, leading to a 74-56 win over Point Park inside CCAC-Allegheny Gym on Thursday afternoon.
In a game that featured eight lead changes and eight ties, the Golden Eagles were held to only 9 points in the first quarter as the Pioneers went into the first quarter break with a 13-9 lead. The game was tied 31-31 at the half, before UC limited Point Park to just 25 second-half points.
Elizabeth Boyd led the Pioneers in scoring and rebounding with 15 points and nine boards, three of which were on the offensive glass. Alexis Giles recorded 14 points while going 4-6 from beyond the arc. Camille Fultz finished with 10 points, which marks the seventh time in the last eight games she has finished in double figures. Fultz also passed out a team-high four assists.
Point Park assisted on 10 of 19 made field goals and went an impressive 12-15 from the free throw line.
The Pioneers bucketed just 29.2% of their field goals (19-65), while the Golden Eagles shot an impressive 43.4% (26-60) from the floor. Both teams went 6-of-17 from three-point range (37%).
The University of Charleston had five double-digit scorers, led by Bridget Womber with 13. Paris Stokes, Ksenija Mitric and Noelle Polanco had 12 apiece, and Harper Annarino finished with 10. Womber also led the Golden Eagles with nine rebounds, while Stokes passed out a team-high four assists.
With the win, Charleston move to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in league play. Point Park falls to 3-8 overall and 1-6 in league play.
The Pioneers travel to West Virginia State on Saturday, where they will meet the Yellow Jackets for the first time this season, with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m.
