GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Point Park men's wrestling team competed in its first-ever Mountain East Conference Wrestling Championships on Saturday, with five student-athletes making brackets in the 133-, 141-, 149-, 157- and 174-weight classes.
Preston Chandler turned in the best finish of the day for the Pioneers, competing at 133. He placed fourth in the bracket after going 2-2 on the day. He dropped his first-round bout by fall, before defeating Salem's Fabian Rivera in the second round and earning a medical forfeit in the third round. In the third-place match, he fell to Fairmont State's Trace Ragland by fall at 1:36.
Liam Hein (149) and
Charles Perkins (174) each placed sixth in their brackets. Perkins picked up a second-round win over Salem's Clayton Downs by fall.
Aiden Burford earned his way into the 141 bracket and dropped bouts against top-seed Ethan Hardy of Glenville State and Chase Bell of Frostburg State. Additionally,
Jake Kandis competed in the 157 bracket, falling by tech-fall and fall to wrap up his day.
The Pioneers will return to action on Friday, Feb. 6, traveling to Davis & Elkins for a dual.
