YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Alexis Heller led Point Park track & field on Friday at the YSU Last Chance Meet, resetting her program record in the shot put with her toss of 12.85 meters.
Heller, a native of Irwin, Pa., continued her dominant rookie season, having now set the program record in the shot put three times. Heller's last mark was 12.57 meters, which she set at YSU on Jan. 31, was 0.36 meters better than her previous.
Fellow freshmen Gabriella Wesney re-upped her second-best distance in the shot put in program history at 12.15 meters. Wesney's previous record was 12.07 meters which she set on Jan. 16.
Heller's mark is good for third-best among all MEC competitors this season and leads all freshmen. Wesney's mark is good for second place among MEC freshmen.
Aike Van der Lei notched a new second-best time in the 5,000m in Point Park history at 15:14.70. Van der Lei finished eighth in the event. Elijah Bechdel also turned in the second-best time in program history in the 3,000m on Friday, finished sixth overall in the event with a time of 8:38.51.
Christian Reid's time of 22.33 seconds in the 200m is good for third in Pioneer history. Reid continued his successful indoor season on Friday, after having already set the third-best time in program history in the 400m on Jan. 16.
Addalynn Brower notched the program's fifth-best time in the 60m at 8.09 seconds. Additionally, Aubrey Smith's time of 1:00.52 in the 400m is fifth-best in PPU history.
Gavin Glass finished seventh in the 60m with his time of 7.23 seconds. Akeem Mustapha, who holds the record in the high jump for Point Park at 2.02 meters, finished sixth in the event on Friday at 1.90 meters. Sterre Kuijper took 10th place in the 5,000m with her time of 19:07.06.
