PETERSBURG, VA -- Point Park men's lacrosse begins its inaugural season on Saturday with a trip to Virginia State (0-1) for the team's first game. Opening face-off is set for 1 p.m. from Rogers Stadium.
Â
The Pioneers will be led by Head Coach Cody Golon, who was hired in July 2024 and spent the 2025 season recruiting. Golon served as head coach at nearby Washington & Jefferson College from 2021 to 2024 where he coached nine all-conference players and W&J's first Academic All American. Additionally, in 2022,Golon coached the highest scoring offense in the last decade at W&J.
Â
Golon noted that junior midfielder Marc Sirolli, one of three non-freshmen on the team, has taken on a leadership role. "[Sirolli]'s almost like another coach for us," Golon said, "the guys definitely look to him for someone who's done that before." Sirolli is the only non-freshman to have been at Point Park since the fall, with juniors Kaden Flett and Tigran Ceesay arriving in January.
Â
Point Park will compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), where it was picked 10th in the preseason poll.Â
Â
Golon noted that his goal is for the team to play its best lacrosse at season's end in April. "For me, it's 1% better," Golon said, "everyday we're getting better at practice, better at that lift, better at film."Â
Â
Golon also expressed his thanks to the Point Park community for embracing the team with such open arms, adding "there's a lot of energy around our sport … if you've never seen lacrosse, come check out a game."Â
Â
Point Park will play in its home-opener on Saturday, Feb. 14, against D'Youville at noon. The Pioneers will play all home games at Highmark Stadium.
