BARTOW, Fla. – Point Park closed out The Spring Games on Thursday, splitting its two games. The Pioneers (3-8) took down Edinboro 7-6 before falling 9-8 to Clarion.
Game 1 (7-6 Point Park, W: Johnson 2-3, L: Warren 0-3)
Edinboro took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Mia Arndt earned a leadoff walk and then stole second. She advanced to third on a bunt from Corrine Wright before scoring on a wild pitch to tie the game.
Point Park took the lead in the bottom of the third when Mia Arndt reached on an error and advanced to second. Corrine Wright's single moved Arndt to third and Cam Mann's fielder's choice scored Arndt.
The Fighting Scots tied the game in the fourth before Shania Cope singled on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Gia LaBrie hit an RBI single to right, giving the Pioneers a 3-1 lead.
Edinboro took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth. Corrine Wright singled and Gianna Welsh doubled to give PPU runners on second and third with two outs. Jana Hess ripped a single to center, scoring Wright and Welsh and regaining Point Park's lead.
Edinboro tied the game in the top of the sixth, before Point Park added two in the bottom half. Gia LaBrie singled and then advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Kaylee Fabiano. Mia Arndt then hit an RBI single and later stole second. Corrine Wright then hit an RBI single of her own, giving the Pioneers a 7-5 lead.
Edinboro scored a run in the top of the seventh, but Julia Johnson induced two fly outs to secure the 7-6 win. Jana Hess had two hits and two RBIs in the game, and Corrine Wright's three hits led the Pioneers.
Game 2 (9-8 Clarion, W: Perdicaris 1-2, L: Henry 0-4, S: Hipps 1)
Point Park dropped its second game of the day 9-8 to Clarion. The Golden Eagles came out of the gate with a 2-0 lead in the first.
In the second inning, Gianna Welsh hit a ground-rule double to left field and was pinch-ran for by Bella Moudy. Jana Hess hit a sacrifice fly to right field, advancing Moudy to third. Emma Henry then grounded out to short, scoring Moudy and cutting the gap to one run.
Clarion added three runs in the third inning, taking a 5-3 lead. Emma Henry hit a one-out double in the fourth inning and advanced to third on a groundout from Gia Labrie. Payton Haller then ripped a single through the left side for an RBI. Clarion would score four runs in the bottom half of the fourth, making it 9-2.
Point Park rallied in the fifth, making it a 9-8 ballgame. Mia Arndt led off the inning, reaching on an error. Corrine Wright's sacrifice bunt moved Arndt. Cam Mann doubled down the line in left and drove in Arndt.
Gianna Welsh then singled up the middle bringing Mann home to make it a 9-4 ballgame. Emma Henry singled to left. A walk from Gia Labrie loaded the bases for Payton Haller who hit a two-RBI single and gave Point Park runners at the corners.
Haller then stole second, setting up Point Park with runners at second and third with two outs. Ava Hubble ripped a single, driving in both runners and bringing the game to 9-8 where the inning would end.
Point Park was unable to complete the late rally, falling 9-8.

Point Park returns home to Fairhaven Park on Wednesday to face Walsh in a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
