SHREVEPORT, La. – Liam Hein and
Charles Perkins led Point Park with 2-1 records on day one of the National Collegiate Westling Association Championships in Shreveport, La.
Aiden Burford turned in a 1-1 mark on Thursday, and
Jacob Kehrer competed in the 157 bracket before being eliminated from the double-elimination tournament.
Hein, competing in the 149 bracket, defeated Sacramento State's Traven Wailehua by fall at 4:35 and then earned a forfeit win in the round of 32 to advance into the round of 16. Life's Camron Crump defeated Hein by a 13-4 major decision to wrap up day one.
Perkins earned a forfeit win in the round of 64 and won by decision (11-5) over Utah State's Karson Rees in the round of 32. He ended his day with a 17-5 major decision loss against Hilldale's Matthew Riehle.
In the 141 bracket, Burford won by fall over LSU's Paul Chapman at 2:06. He dropped his round of 16 bout by an 18-3 tech-fall against Apprentice's Michael Phoutasen.
Hein, Perkins and Burford will return to action in the consolation rounds on Friday in Shreveport.
