Liam Hein Garners NCWA All-America Honors

SHREVEPORT, La. – Liam Hein became the first Point Park men's wrestling student-athlete to earn All-America honors on Saturday evening, finishing in eighth place in the 149 weight class at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association National Championships in Shreveport, La.
 
After going 2-1 on Thursday's opening day, Hein went 3-1 on Friday to advance to the seventh-place match of the weight class on Saturday. He fell in the seventh-place match by a 2-0 decision against Ferrum College's Hayden Thompson.
 
To advance to Saturday, he opened up Friday with a pair of fall victories over Texas A&M's Rylan Woodward and Colorado State's Tobias Pinson. In his third bout on Friday, he earned an 11-5 decision over Washington State's Hudson Garcia. His victory included three escapes, one takedown and one nearfall. In the consolation round of four, he fell by major decision to earn his place in the seventh-place match.
 
After a 1-1 start to the tournament on Thursday, Aiden Burford went 1-1 on Friday to end his first year at PPU. He began Friday with a 15-0 tech-fall over Adrian College's Gavin Berkeypile. His lopsided win included three nearfalls and two takedowns. He ended competition at the championship by falling by decision (12-5) in the consolation round of eight.
 
Charles Perkins bowed out of the tournament on Friday morning following a 2-1 start to competition on Thursday's opening day. On Friday, he dropped a 10-1 major decision to Williamson College's Alexander Gamble-Williams.
