BARTOW, Fla. -- Point Park softball picked up its first win of the 2026 campaign on Sunday, beating Queens College 3-0 behind a strong outing from Julia Johnson in the circle.
Johnson picked up her first collegiate win on Sunday, moving to 1-2 in her freshman season. She pitched a shutout over seven innings of three-hit ball and struck out six.
Point Park (1-4, 0-0 MEC) jumped out to a quick lead with Mia Arndt scoring in the first inning. Arndt led off the game with a walk and then stole second, before Gia Labrie's sacrifice bunt moved her to third. Arndt would score on a fielding error in the next at bat.
Johnson struck out two in the bottom of the first, and recorded outs on nine of her next 10 batters, including back-to-back 1-2-3 innings in the second and the third.
In the fifth inning, Cam Mann reached base on a drop by Queens' right fielder, advancing to second with two outs. Mann would come around to score after an error by Queens' first baseman off the bat of Gianna Welsh, providing Point Park with an insurance run.
In the bottom of the fifth, Johnson navigated a jam with the bases loaded, forcing a groundout to shortstop Shania Cope to end the inning. The fifth inning was the only inning in which Queens left more than one player on base.
Point Park took a 3-0 lead in the sixth when Jana Hess walked and then advanced to second thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Emma Henry. Shania Cope singled to left center with two outs, bringing Hess home to score.
