BARTOW, Fla. -- Point Park softball dropped both of its games on Monday, falling to Southwest Minnesota State 11-1 and losing 8-7 to California (Pa) in walk-off fashion.
Cam Mann and Corrine Wright both had three-hit days, with Mann tallying two RBIs and Wright recording one. Mia Arndt and Emma Henry both notched two hits on Monday.
Game 1 (11-1 SMSU - W: Hopp 4-6, L: Henry 0-2)
Point Park dropped its first game of the day to Southwest Minnesota State 11-1. The Pioneers totaled three hits on the day, two of which came off the bat of Mia Arndt. Arndt, who went 2-for-2, drove in the Pioneers' lone run on a sacrifice fly to center field in the fifth inning.
The Mustangs (13-8) got off to a fast start, scoring three runs in the first inning. SMSU built up a 8-0 lead through five innings before the Pioneers would tally. Payton Moyer walked and pinch-runner Bella Moudy quickly advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Moudy would get to third on a sacrifice bunt from Breanna Pies before Mia Arndt's aforementioned sacrifice fly to center.
Game 2 (8-7 Cal. - W: Ndioh 1-0, L: Johnson 1-3)
The Pioneers fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but they were able to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the third. Corrine Wright led off the inning with a single, and Mia Arndt reached base immediately after on an error. A walk from Gia LaBrie loaded the bases with no outs, and Cam Mann's double to left center drove in two runs. A passed ball in the next at bat brought LaBrie home to score for PPU.
The Vulcans responded in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs of their own and retaking the lead. The game stayed scoreless until the fifth when Point Park scored four runs to take a 7-4 lead. Cam Mann hit a leadoff single and would move to second on a fielder's choice. A double from Jana Hess brought Mann in to score. Hess advanced to third on a single from Emma Henry and scored on an error by the shortstop.
Kaylee Fabiano hit an RBI single, bringing home Hess, and advanced to second on the throw to the plate. Corrine Wright then hit an RBI single of her own, bringing home Fabiano for a four-run inning.
California responded with a three-run sixth inning. Makayla Jerin hit a two-out bases-clearing double to tie the game. In the seventh, California's leadoff hitter, Savanna Benish, singled to left and advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Jenna Hollerich then walked off the Pioneers with her triple, giving the Vulcans an 8-7 victory.
