PITTSBURGH -- Point Park baseball split its twinbill with Frostburg State on Saturday, capturing an 8-1 win in game one before falling 13-1 in the second game. The Pioneers took three of the four games in the series with the Bobcats, moving to 25-14 (16-8 MEC) on the season.
Game 1: 8-1 Point Park, W: Dimidjian (6-1), L: Layhew (5-3)
Camden Dimidjian pitched a complete game in game one, striking out six batters and allowing just one run. Dimidjian picked up his sixth win of the season, tying Harold Boyce for the team lead.Â
Â
Dimidjian's only run allowed came in the top of the first when Jackson Schalick hit a home run to left field on a full count. The Pioneers quickly responded, however, with a five-run first inning of their own.
Â
Chris Williams led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Olindo Pezzone walked and Blake Ewing ripped a single up the middle to bring Williams around to tie the game and Pezzone to third. Trevor Jones then reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Pezzone to score. After a walk from Luis Gonzalez, Carlos de la Vega singled and advanced to third on a throwing error, bringing Gonzalez and Jones in. De la Vega then scored on a wild pitch to give the Pioneers a 5-1 lead.
Â
Dimidjian faced 10 batters over the next three innings, allowing two baserunners - one of whom was retired on a double play.Â
Â
In the bottom of the fifth, Blake Ewing laced a ball over the fence in right field for a no-doubt home run. Ewing's blast was his 12th of the year, good for second in the MEC.
Â
After Dimidjian retired the side in order in the sixth inning, Carlos de la Vega tallied a leadoff walk and Felix Gonzalez belted a home run to left to give the Pioneers an 8-1 lead. Dimidjian retired the side in the top of the seventh to give Point Park the series win over the Bobcats.Â

Game 2: 13-1 Frostburg State, W: Bauer (2-1), L: Jordan (1-2)
Frostburg State took game two thanks to a six-run fourth inning. The Bobcats opened the second game with an RBI double off the bat of Jake Holler to left field, scoring Ryan Bouma and Tanner Cunningham.Â
Â
Cunningham tallied an RBI on a suicide squeeze in the second inning, bunting for a hit and bringing in Landon Marple to make it 3-0. The Bobcats scored three more runs on a double to center field from Jackson Schalick which cleared the bases.
Â
Point Park tallied its lone run of the second game in the third inning when Olindo Pezzone drove in Sebastian Hernandez on a sacrifice fly.Â
Â
Frostburg State pulled away in the fourth inning, scoring six runs, four of which were unearned. FSU added a run in the top of the seventh on a double from Will Mollman before the game was ended due to inclement weather.
