BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Point Park baseball swept the MEC weekly awards on Monday with Chris Williams being named MEC Player of the Week and Harold Boyce earning MEC Pitcher of the Week. Both awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Williams, a junior from Miami, Fla., went 6-for-6 with two grand slams and two doubles in Point Park's win over Wheeling on Sunday. Williams totaled 13 RBIs in the game. His hits, total bases (14) and RBIs are the most by a Pioneer in a single game in program history and lead all MEC players this season.
He is now tied for second place in the MEC in single-game home runs. Williams shares the spot with teammate Olindo Pezzone among others.
Harold "Shaggy" Boyce threw a complete-game shutout in Point Park's win over Wheeling on Friday. Boyce fanned seven batters and allowed three hits and three walks in the start. His start against Wheeling was his fourth shutout of the season, and his seven strikeouts are his second-best total in a single game this year.
A native of Bakersfield, Ca., Boyce was named MEC Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 16 after he threw a no-hitter in a complete-game shutout. Boyce went on to be named NCBWA Division II Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week and National Pitcher of the Week after the performance.
Point Park will take on Slippery Rock on Tuesday before a four-game series with Salem over the weekend. The Pioneers have clinched a spot in the MEC Tournament, currently sitting in third place in the North Division.
