PITTSBURGH – The 2026 season comes to a close this weekend for Point Park softball as the Pioneers host West Liberty and Wheeling in Mountain East Conference action at Fairhaven Park.
The four-game homestand begins Thursday afternoon with West Liberty visiting for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch. The season finale is set for Friday at 1:00 p.m. when the Pioneers take on Wheeling.
Point Park enters the weekend at 11-33 overall and 3-21 in MEC play. The Pioneers are currently on a four-game losing streak but most recently earned a doubleheader sweep of Salem on April 22.
West Liberty comes in with a 13-13 conference record and has already clinched the No. 3 seed in the MEC North Division. The Hilltoppers have won their last two games and eight of their last 10, including a sweep of Frostburg State and a split with Fairmont State last weekend.
Since Point Park's transition to the NCAA, the two programs have met 11 times, with West Liberty holding a 7-4 advantage in the series.
Wheeling enters the weekend looking to finish its season strong. The Cardinals will face Salem on Thursday before traveling to Pittsburgh. They hold a 10-38 overall record and are 5-21 in MEC play. Wheeling has dropped its last three games and is 2-8 over its last 10, including a 1-19 mark on the road this season.
Point Park holds a 4-3 edge in the all-time series against Wheeling. Earlier this season, the Pioneers dropped game one but responded with a six-run seventh inning to earn a 9-6 comeback victory in game two.
POINT PARK NOTEBOOK
- Cam Mann and Emma Henry lead the Pioneers with matching .311 batting averages.
- Mia Arndt leads the team with an .870 OPS, followed by Henry at .806.
- Arndt also paces the team in hits (43), runs (36), home runs (5), slugging percentage (.486), and stolen bases (31).
- Ava Hubble leads the team with nine doubles.
WEST LIBERTY NOTEBOOK
- Delaney Deitrick ranks third in the MEC in on-base percentage (.488).
- Paytyn Tucker ranks among the MEC leaders in multiple categories, including runs (37), hits (56), at-bats (154), and stolen bases (23). She also owns a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
- In the circle, Kadence Pettit ranks in the top 10 in the MEC in ERA (2.23), opponent batting average (.207), and strikeouts (70).
- Head coach Sara Pelegreen is in her third season leading the Hilltoppers. Under her leadership, West Liberty finished second in the MEC North last season and advanced to the MEC Championship game.
WHEELING NOTEBOOK
- Mackenzie Burns leads the Cardinals with a .358 batting average.
- KeKe Warrix is the only other qualified hitter above .300, batting .316.
- Burns also leads the team in OPS (.999), hits (43), doubles (9), home runs (4), RBIs (21), slugging percentage (.533), and walks (22).
- Wheeling has relied on three primary pitchers:
- Kaylin Shields (4-14, 5.47 ERA)
- Ryleigh Peters (2-16, 5.03 ERA)
- Maria Clark (3-4, 4.17 ERA, 3 complete games)
