PITTSBURGH – The Pioneers recorded just seven hits on Senior Day as the Pioneers were swept by Salem in a doubleheader at Greentree Park.
GAME ONE: SALEM 6, POINT PARK 0 (8 INNINGS)
W: Savage (4-1) | L: Parker (3-3)
Game one turned into a classic pitching duel, with both teams held scoreless through seven innings before Salem broke through in the eighth.
Point Park managed just three hits in the contest, coming from Chris Williams, Olindo Pezzone, and Nicholas Briones. Salem, meanwhile, recorded 12 hits, with half coming in a decisive eighth inning.
Aaron Forbes sparked the rally in the eighth with a leadoff double and came around to score on Cody Thomas' double. After a bunt single and a stolen base put two runners in scoring position, Chase Clemons delivered an RBI single to make it 2-0. Max Atkinson followed with an RBI double, and after an intentional walk, Reese Rinna cleared the bases with a double to extend the lead to 6-0.
Salem reliever Richie Preson closed the door in the bottom half, securing the shutout victory.
Otho Savage earned the win, tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out four. Ethan Parker took the loss for Point Park.
GAME TWO: SALEM 14, POINT PARK 3
W: Kendall (4-4) | L: Exler (0-1)
Salem's offense carried over into game two, as the Tigers erupted early and never looked back.
After a scoreless first inning, Salem plated six runs in the second to take control. RBI hits from McAlpine, Wintermute, and Forbes highlighted the inning, giving the Tigers a commanding 6-0 lead.
The Tigers continued to add on, including a two-run homer from Cody Thomas in the fourth and additional RBI doubles from Wintermute and Thomas later in the game.
Point Park got on the board in the fourth inning when Olindo Pezzone singled and Blake Ewing followed with a double. Luis Gonzalez brought in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Josh Zambito added another RBI groundout to make it 11-2.
Chris Williams added a solo home run in the fifth for the Pioneers' final run.
Brian Kendall earned the win, going six innings while allowing three runs on four hits and striking out six. Logan Exler took the loss after allowing six runs in 1.1 innings.
REGULAR SEASON RECAP
Despite the sweep, Point Park finishes the regular season at 29-20 overall and 18-10 in MEC play.
The Pioneers led the conference with 55 home runs, while posting the third-best ERA (4.90) and second-best fielding percentage (.968).
Olindo Pezzone (15 HR) and Blake Ewing (13 HR) finished first and second in the MEC in home runs, while Camden Dimidjian recorded the fourth-best ERA in the conference (3.16).

POSTSEASON
Point Park has clinched its second consecutive Mountain East Conference Tournament appearance.
The Pioneers, who finished third in the North Division, will begin their championship defense as they will face South Division No. 1 seed Concord on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Go-Mart Ballpark in Charleston, West Virginia.
