CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Third-seeded Point Park baseball will take on first-place Concord on Wednesday night to open the MEC Championships. First pitch is scheduled for 7 at GoMart Park.

Point Park (29-20, 18-10 MEC) claimed the third spot in the MEC North Division, finishing three games back of Wheeling and Frostburg State. The Pioneers dropped their four-game series against Salem over the weekend, including a sweep on Sunday.Â

Point Park's last taste of MEC play saw them split with Wheeling in a four-game series. Harold Boyce pitched a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts on Friday, Apr. 24 in a 2-0 win. On Apr. 26, Chris Williams went 6-for-6 in a 22-11 win, hitting two grand slams and two doubles for 13 RBIs. Boyce and Williams each received MEC honors, being tabbed MEC Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.Â

The Pioneers split their doubleheader with Concord (25-25, 19-11 MEC) on Mar. 22, picking up a 10-6 win and dropping game two 13-11. Olindo Pezzone hit two home runs over the doubleheader and tallied six RBIs and four runs. Blake Ewing also tallied six RBIs over two home runs - including a grand slam. Point Park hit seven home runs in the doubleheader with Pezzone and Ewing each hitting two and Luis Gonzalez, Chris Williams and Felix Rodriguez all leaving the yard.

The loser of Point Park and Concord's game will play the loser of Wheeling and Glenville State on Thursday at 7 p.m. The winner will play the winner of Frostburg State and Charleston's game Friday afternoon.
