CLARION, Pa. -- Point Park University baseball brought home two more wins in a non-conference doubleheader at Clarion Wednesday afternoon, 7-0 and 9-1. The Pioneers improved to 31-13, and this is the third season in a row that the Pioneers have had 30 or more wins.

Point Park opened up the game with a RBI single by shortstop Chaz Russo in the top of the first and later led the game, 2-0 after center fielder Tom Pasinski doubled in the fifth and scored on a RBI single from designated hitter Tyler Cattapan.

The Pioneers scored five more in the top of the sixth after Russo singled to left field, advanced on a wild pitch then scored on a single by third baseman Jordan Crowell. Right fielder Javy Marticorena's single advanced Crowell, who scored on two consecutive walks.

Ken DiBucci relieved Ryan Voisey for Clarion, but the Pioneers scored two more to extend their lead to 7-0 off of seven total hits in the game.

Junior pitcher Bryan Lopez pitched seven innings with three strikeouts and only gave up three hits in the shutout victory for Point Park. Lopez earned the win while Ryan Voisey took the loss for the Golden Eagles.

Russo and Pasinski both went 2 for 4 in Game 1 while Pasinski had two RBIs and a double.

Point Park took the second game, 9-1, with 14 hits, and it opened up with Don McDuffee and Russo scoring on a single by Marticorena in the first inning. Pasinski's single drove in Marticorena to take the lead 3-0 after one.

The Pioneers put up another four runs in the second inning with the help of first baseman Marlon Leyva doubling to center field with two men on base. Leyva scored on a single by second baseman Tom Birko, who was sent home on a sacrifice fly by catcher Tyler Cattapan.

McDuffee scored Point Park's ninth run on a ground out by Russo in the third inning. Clarion's only run came from Joey Gierlak who scored on a Josh Ponsoll single to right field in the third. That was the only hit given up by winning pitcher Michael Cetta, who did not give up an earned run in a complete game.

Cetta's 1-hitter included eight strikeouts, two walks and the victory in seven innings. Clarion starter Drew Vandermeer took the loss for the Golden Eagles.

Russo led the hitting in Game 2 going 3 for 5. Birko went 2 for 2 while Cattapa, McDuffee and Pasinski all had two hits. Marticorena had three RBIs on two hits, and Leyva contributed two RBIs on one hit.

The Pioneers play Thursday, April 18, at Wheeling Jesuit. The doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m.
