PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University shortstop Yuliecer Arias and right-handed pitcher Jake Horew have swept the KIAC Baseball Player & Pitcher of the Week awards for March 24-30, 2014, the conference announced on Monday (March 31).

Arias, a senior shortstop from Caracas, Venezuela, hit .466 (7 for 15) with four doubles, a triple, eight RBIs and five runs in a 4-0 week for Point Park (20-11, 6-4 KIAC). He did most of his damage in a great day March 29 versus Berea. In a doubleheader sweep, he was 6 for 8 with three doubles, a triple and seven RBIs in one day.

Arias, a transfer from Indian Hills (Iowa) CC, is hitting .340 with 16 RBIs. He has started 30 of 31 games and is the No. 2 hitter in the Pioneers' lineup.

Horew, a freshman right-hander from Oakdale, Pa., and Chartiers Valley High School, got the KIAC honor with his three-hit shutout of West Virginia Tech at home March 27. He struck out four, walked one and improved to 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA with the complete game.

Horew has gone the distance in each of his four outings -- all starts -- and all three of the runs he has given up were unearned. Opponents are hitting .165 off of Horew, the Pioneers' No. 5 starter. He has 15 strikeouts and six walks on the year.

Point Park's next games are April 1 at NCAA Division II West Virginia State for a non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.
