BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Point Park University men's basketball made 19 3-pointers in its season-opening win over SUNY-Delhi, 104-83, at the Villa Maria (N.Y.) Tipoff Classic on Friday.
The Pioneers (1-0) had already made 11 treys when they were ahead, 51-35, at halftime. Point Park had five players score in double figures led by newcomer Kelvin Goodwin, who had 22 points and nine assists. Goodwin is a senior guard who was the leading scorer for Slippery Rock last year.
Sa'iid Allen came off the bench for 21 points on 7 of 9 from 3-point range. The sophomore guard from Baton Rouge, La., joined with Goodwin in leading the barrage from the outside. Goodwin was 5 for 9 from deep and had four treys by halftime.
Jerah'me Williams had 16 points and five assists and was 4 for 8 from the perimeter. T.J. Lanier also scored 16 points to go along with six rebounds and four blocks. Lanier made 7 of 9 field goals and 2 of 3 from the outside.
Yandell Denis totaled 14 points and and a team-high seven rebounds.
Point Park's 19 3-point makes came on 35 attempts for 54 percent. The Pioneers shot 58 percent overall. SUNY-Delhi shot 44 percent overall and 33 percent (8 for 24) from long range.
Point Park got out to a 23-8 lead in the early going and was ahead, 73-49, midway through the second half.
The Pioneers continue play at the Villa Maria (N.Y.) Tipoff Classic on Saturday at 2 p.m. versus SUNY-ESF, which lost to host Villa Maria, 69-62, on Friday. The Pioneers have their home opener Nov. 6 vs. No. 17 Northwestern Ohio at 7:30 p.m.
