WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. -- Point Park University men's basketball ran out and hid from Asbury (Ky.) early on. The Eagles almost found the Pioneers by the end, but Point Park had another push left in itself. The result was a 107-87 victory for Point Park on Friday night at CCAC-South.

Point Park (5-3, 1-1 KIAC) got out to a 35-point lead of 57-22 with still over five minutes left in the first half. Asbury (Ky.) (3-5, 0-1 KIAC) eventually got back into it and trailed by just eight points, 83-75, with seven minutes left in the game.

But behind T.J. Lanier's 27 points off the bench, another 27 from Kelvin Goodwin and 20 more from Jerah'me Williams, there was no catching the Pioneers.

Lanier, Goodwin and Williams each made four 3-pointers on the night, and Point Park made 15 as a team. Point Park shot 60 percent for the game, including 15 for 27 from long range for 56 percent.

Sa'iid Allen chipped in 15 points and accounted for the other three 3-pointers from the Pioneers.

It was a prolific first half for the Pioners. Point Park made 11 treys the first 20 minutes, and the 11th one was a part of Lanier's four-point play that pushed the lead to the biggest of the night, 57-22, at the 5:16 mark.

Although Asbury (Ky.) cut into the lead, Point Park's 62-point first half had it up 20 points at the half. The Pioneers shot 67 percent overall and 11 for 18 from downtown the first half.

The Pioneers had four double-digit scorers by halftime. Point Park was still up by 20 points the first five minutes of the second half, but that's when Asbury made its first move. A 3 by Daulton Peters brought the Eagles within 70-60 with 13:00 left.

But two outside bombs by Goodwin with an old-fashioned 3-point play from Lanier in between quickly had Point Park back up 79-60 less than two minutes later.

And although Asbury made another run to get within 89-80 with 5:00 to go, Lanier and Goodwin were there again. Lanier hit from the outside to finish 8 for 10 from the field and Goodwin scored twice on drives to put the game away, 97-83, with under 3:00 remaining.

Point Park's next game is Saturday at home versus Brescia (Ky.) at 2 p.m. for another KIAC game. The rematch of last year's KIAC Tournament semifinals won by Point Park will be broadast by the Point Park Sports Network presented by Stretch Internet at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/ppu.
