BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Troy Williams' 3-pointer with one second left completed a second-half comeback for the University of Maine-Fort Kent in a 79-76 victory over Point Park University on the first day of the Buffalo State (N.Y.) Coles Classic men's basketball tournament Friday night at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.

UMFK (4-4) did not take its first lead until there was only 1:32 left. But the Bengals hit the big shots in the final 90 seconds -- including Williams' winner -- to come away with the victory. Point Park (1-4) led by as many was 14 points in the first half when it made nine 3-pointers the opening 20 minutes.

The Pioneers came off the bus firing with leads of 12-2 early on and then later 27-13 at the 12:05 mark. Daniel King and Gavin Rajahpillay, who finished with 22 and 21 points, respectively, led the scoring for Point Park. Both of them had already connected for multiple treys by the time the Pioneers had taken their 14-point lead.

The Pioneers hit a bit of a lull in the last few minutes of the first half, and they were up 47-39 at the break. King had 17 and Rajahpillay 14 at that point with the backcourt duo combining for seven of the Pioneers' nine 3-pointers in the half.

But Point Park did not have the same shooting touch after halftime as it made just two treys from that point on. The first of those was by Rajahpillay with 15:28 to go, which still had the Pioneers up double digits at 54-44.

UMFK, which was newly admitted into the NAIA this past spring, made its run to get within 55-53 on Thomas Enerva's layup awith 12:47 left. Enerva, a 6-8 center, led the Bengals with 20 points and 15 rebounds on 10 of 14 shooting.

Asim Pleas had 15 points for Point Park, and he hit a couple of big jumpers to help give the Pioneers some separation down the stretch. King also had a big shot as his trey with 3:04 remaining gave the Pioneers a 72-66 cushion.

But Anthony Knight answered right back for UMFK with two straight treys of his own to tie the score at 72-72 moments later. The Bengals took their first lead at 74-73 on Knight's jumper with 1:32 left.

Then Fousseini Konate then made 1 of 2 free throws for Point Park to tie the score at 74-74. But UMFK worked the ball inside for Minerva's basket and a 76-74 lead with 41 second left. King tied things up with his jumper at the other end, which came with 25 seconds to go.

But the Bengals got the last shot, worked the clock down, and Williams hit the winning 3 with just one second. He finished with 12 points to add to UMFK's 41 bench points.
