Box Score GREENSBURG, Pa. -- In the yearly matchup of some of the top college teams in Western Pennsylvania, (RV) Seton Hill edged Point Park University, 11-9, in a non-conference game on Tuesday.
The teams were playing for the fourth year in a row, and it once again lived up to the history of it being an offensive slugfest. Point Park (28-13) and Seton Hill (24-13) combined for 25 hits and 20 runs in the latest matchup. In the five games played the last four years, the teams have combined for 82 runs.
Emmanuel Lopez led the 13-hit attack for Point Park going 2 for 3 with a homer, four runs scored and two walks. He led off the second inning with a solo shot to ignite a three-run rally as the Pioneers went out in front, 3-1.
But Seton Hill, which is receiving votes in the NCAA Division II Top 25, struck for six runs in the bottom of the second to take control, and it had the lead the rest of the way. Three of the runs in in the inning were unearned as the Griffins made them pay with four hits.
Point Park used four pitchers who threw two innings each with Logan Linder getting the start followed by Anthony Garofalo, Daryl Pino and Keenan Smith. The game went the full nine innings that it was scheduled for. Those four combined to give up six earned runs over eight innings.
The Pioneers chipped away at the lead getting within 8-5 on Addison Domingo's two-run single in the fifth and within 10-7 on an RBI double by Danny Sanchez and a sacrifice fly by Yuri Sucart in the seventh. Point Park scored twice more in the ninth, and Seton Hill brought in Bryce Spak to close it out with the tying run at the plate. Spak leads Seton Hill in appearances and saves.
Edberg Dominguez went 2 for 3 with a double for Point Park. Also with two hits was Cole Johnson going 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Danny Sanchez 2 for 5 with his RBI double. Domingo went 1 for 2 with a walk and his two-RBI base hit.
Point Park continues non-conference play versus another NCAA school traveling to NCAA Division III No. 17 Washington & Jefferson (18-3) on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
