FLORENCE, Ind. -- Point Park University is in seventh place after the first round Monday of the River States Conference Women's Golf Fall Preview. The Pioneers have 18 more holes in the final round Tuesday to make up ground in the tournament that serves as a preview for the conference championship in the spring. Both events are being held at Belterra Golf Course in Florence, Ind.
Point Park's Joey Walz is in sixth place individually after shooting 83 in the first round. She is the first player not from IU East, Midway (Ky.) and Asbury (Ky.), which are the schools that are leading the tournament in the team standings.
Point Park shot a team score of 393, which was just behind sixth-place Brescia (Ky.) with a 391. Freshman Olivia Stawovy was the second Point Park performer on the day with a 96, which put her in a tie for 25th. Lindsey Swanson is in a tie for 31st after carding 101. Megan Locke (113) and Sydney Schaffer (121) rounded out the Point Park competitors.
IU East shot 330 and leads Asbury by 11 strokes and Midway by 14 shots after 18 holes. The Red Wolves' Breanna Nowak is the individual leader with a 1-over 72, which is good for a six-shot lead over Midway's Hannah Scroggins. IU East's Joe Wisecup shot 83 for third place at the halfway point.
The final round features a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The Pioneers begin their rounds on holes No. 11-17. The leaders begin the round on No. 1, and the next teams on No. 6. For the final-round pairings, click here.
