Point Park's Horew is RSC Baseball Player of the Week

PITTSBURGH -- Cole Horew has swung a very hot bat over the last seven days, and thus he was named the River States Conference Baseball Player of the Week for March 12-18.

Last week, Horew hit .474 (9 for 19) with 10 runs, two doubles, a triple and a home run for a slugging percentage of .842. Although it came outside of the week for the award, his outburst continued on Monday (March 19) when he went 3 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs in a 5-1 win over Fisher (Mass.).

Horew was 12 for 22 (.545) from last Monday to this Monday to bring is average up to .491, which is fifth in the NAIA. His slugging percentage of .909 is fourth in the nation and includes six doubles, four triples, three home runs and 13 RBIs in 20 games. His four triples are ranked 10th in the country, and he has scored 25 runs to rank 24th in the nation.

Horew has been the hottest bat so far for the No. 22-ranked Pioneers, who have a record of 19-2 overall, 9-0 RSC and hit .335 as a team, a stat that is 21st in the NAIA. Point Park has eight starters hitting over .300 and two over .400. Point Park plays its next games at home versus Asbury (Ky.) for an RSC series on Friday and Saturday.
