PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University baseball comes in at No. 15 in the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll this week (April 17). The Pioneers are 31-4 overall and 19-2 in the River States Conference.
Point Park dropped down one spot from the previous poll, which had the Pioneers at No. 14 two weeks ago. Point Park has been ranked in all four Top 25 polls in the regular season so far.
The Pioneers won an RSC series over Rio Grande (Ohio) and then lost a conference series to Midway (Ky.) since the last rankings. The Pioneers are tied for the conference lead with (RV) IU Southeast, which continues to mentioned in the poll as well.
Making the biggest jump in the Top 25 poll this week was Cumberlands (Ky.) (39-4), which has won 35 of its last 36 games. The only loss during that span was April 3 versus Midway (Ky.), which stopped a 23-game win streak. Cumberlands moved up from No. 23 to No. 13 in this week's poll to drop Point Park back one spot.
Point Park continues to rank highly in the NAIA in the key areas. The Pioneers are No. 1 in the nation with a team ERA of 2.35, fifth in the country in fielding with a percentage of .972 and eighth in the NAIA in team batting average at .344.
The Pioneers had three mid-week games postponed earlier this week with snow in the Pittsburgh area calling off matchups versus Seton Hill and PSU-Greater Allegheny. Point Park has added matchups at Georgetown (Ky.) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Thursday at 4 p.m. The Pioneers at (RV) IU Southeast for big series in RSC play on Friday and Saturday.
