FLORENCE, Ind. -- Point Park University's Joey Walz and Olivia Stawovy are both one shot off the lead after Monday's first round of the River States Conference Women's Golf Fall Preview. Walz, a senior, and Stawovy, a sophomore, both shot 79 to begin the 36-hole tournament that is being held at Belterra Golf Course in Florence, Ind.
Indiana University East players Lexie Fields and Jo Wisecup are tied for the lead with rounds of 6-over 78. Walz and Stawovy are two of the three players who are tied for third after 18 holes with the other being Brandi Jones of IU Kokomo. Those are the only five players who broke 80 on the day.
There are a total of 44 players and nine teams represented at the tournament, which is a preview of the RSC Women's Golf Championship to be held at the same course in the spring. Point Park did not have a team score. Sophomore Megan Locke was the third individual to compete for the Pioneers, and she is in 37th place with a 109.
Midway (Ky.) University is in first place of the team standings with a 327 in the first round. That's two shots in front of Asbury (Ky.) University with a 329 and 10 shots clear of IU Kokomo in third place.
