Point Park men drop NAIA matchup at St. Thomas (Fla.)

MIAMI, Fla. -- Point Park University men's basketball had a tough first half and lost at St. Thomas (Fla.) University, 89-67, on Saturuday. The Pioneers (2-1) absorbed their first loss of the season after shooting just 25 percent the first half and getting down 52-29.

Sherron Schifino scored 13 points off the bench to lead the Pioneers, and freshmen Xavier Prince added 10 as the only Point Park players in double digits. Point Park did level things out to shoot 44 percent the final 20 minutes and led St. Thomas, 38-37, during the second half, but it was an overall cold night of 35 percent from the floor.

Point Park had only six turnovers, but the shots were not falling. Most misses were taken care of by St. Thomas (1-0) with a 47-25 advantage in rebounds. The Pioneers did make good at the free throw line getting there 30 times and making 23 for a good chuck of their points.

Juwan Willis and R.J. Fairrow chipped in eight points apiece, and Kameron Shockley added seven.

Justin Brown scored 26 points to lead St. Thomas, which shot 61 percent from the floor and made 8 of 15 treys. Ahmad Gilbert added 14 points and a couple of 3-pointers as one of three Bobcats in double figures.
